Blog Action Day: Poverty

This beautifully written book about "a greedy king, who with the help of a generous quiltmaker, learns to find happiness by giving his possessions away", is a perfect way to talk to your children about giving and sacrifice on this Blog Action Day. As a family, take the time to devise a plan to help relieve poverty in your own community or the world at large. This list has a lot of good ideas and this book is also a great resource for families.

for my part, i turn to sites like freerice (rice donation), kiva (microfinance), and goodsearch (donation per search), as ways to help alleviate poverty online. i also put up their banners on my blog. :)
saw this post via the front page of blog action day. it's great that you're participating. :)

I was JUST thinking about this yesterday while I was driving! I was trying to figure out how to get L involved in some service - my conclusion was "email Carrie and ask" and then "don't bother Carrie, look up the past Tales posts that talk about this" Thanks for the post!

Luc's new favorite book (sort of what sparked my desire to get him involved in some good) is Joseph Had a Little Overcoat. It's a great book - moral: making something out of nothing.
