Kage's Favorite Things

So I have a few...

BOOKS:

As the child of a new reader, and also a child who is very interested in Chapter Books (she sat through Charlotte's Web read aloud at the age of 3 people)...I have found a great chapter book for her reading level:

Introducing.... MERCY WATSON books by Kate DiCamillo.

The words are for beginning readers and repetative...the illustrations are so colorful and the plots very funny.

I am way into nonfiction lately, and have just read/am reading a few good ones that I recommend here:

ESCAPE
RATS
Cesar's way

FOOD:

My new favorite Snack is Kashi Pumpkin Spice Flax Crunchy Granola Bars. I am also a fan of their Heart to Heart Cereal and their frozen entrees (pricey, but yummy).

Speaking of food....my new favorite canned soup is Amy's Organic Lentil. I picked some up at Costco thinking it would be a nice addition to my food storage, but it has quickly become a staple. My daughter and I love it and the minestrone.

I tried MASH the other day in the Grapefruit Citrus Zinger variety and it was way good. Next time you see it, try it.

BEAUTY:

I have been struggling with the adult acne factor since banishing the birth control pill from my body several months ago. Since then I have had outbreaks of acne which I assume is due to hormones since it seems cyclical. I have also had more on my forehead since I got bangs. My blackheads are simply out-of-control hording puss like pollen, in order to make honey? Like seriously, what gives.

Then I added a pill that supposedly further messes up hormones and in fact makes the birth control pill ineffective, so good thing I was already not taking it....And this pill ALSO contributed to even more adult acne. (Doesn't adult acne sound better then ZITS?)

ANYWAY, after months of trying to clear up my skin, I finally found THE PRODUCT. I have now gone almost a full cycle (at least past the acne part of the cycle) with this new product and my acne has gone down by at least 95 Percent. It's a MIRACLE.

Introducing: Kiehls Tea Tree Oil Toner.

I know, the word OIL in a toner made me skeptical too, but my kiehls peops do NOT dissappoint. RUN to your nearest www.kiehls.com today and buy this stuff...it's a miracle acne force.

I just read an article about facial sunscreen and it said that in order to get the full protection from our face sunscreen we have to use like an entire teaspoon on our face, which is just way too gloppy. So, in order to combat that, I suggest wearing one that is a high SPF and putting on as much as you can stand.

I recently tried Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 55 and it feels like baby powder on the face and does not have an annyoing scent. My dermatologist has tons of free samples, so yours might too....else, pick some up at the drugstore!

  • Kashi frozen meals: Delicious. Wish they were a tad cheaper.

I am so picking up that Kiehl's toner today. I could call my problem adult acne, but honestly, I am so disgusted by it, that it deserves the name ZITS.

  • For books: Try the Eloise series by Kay Thompson. I'm thinkin' Big Sis would dig them as Eloise is 6 and lives in the Plaza Hotel (such a shame that they closed) with her Nanny, her turtle Skipperdee, and her dog, Wiennie. The illustrations are AMAZING and the story lines are just too cute! I'm almost 30 and I STILL want to be Eloise!

  • I'm a huge fan of the Neutrogena sunscreen that you mentioned, I used it all last summer and all through India, it's great. And the flat tube is nice for throwing in my purse so that I always have something with me.

Also, you should try the Amy's Organic Tomato Bisque - YUMMY, especially with a little cheddar cheese and some italian seasoning sprinkled on the top. I'll have to try the MASH next time I see it.

And I'm putting in a Kiehl's order now...

  • I stopped my birth control pills about 8 months ago and I'm to the point where I want to rip my face off because of the acne. I'm definitely going to try the toner. Do you know if they sell in stores anywhere?

  • Never mind the question about stores. Just used their store locator.

  • I swear Kage, anyone who wants to sell facial care products should hire you because we all want your skin (at least the skin we remember you having :). I am afraid though, the toner won't have quite the magic effects (ie: Kage's porcelain skin) I am hoping for, but it's worth a shot.

Brenbot - they also sell in Nordstroms if you have one of those around.

  • That tea tree toner is like the weirdest thing I have ever put on my face, but I am telling you, unless this month was a serious fluke (which I don't think it was)....it is a miracle cure....so let me know how it goes...I expect you to report in....

  • For a new beginning reader chapter book by an LDS woman author, I recommend "Three Little Robbers," by Christine Graham. Not a series - yet ....

  • I love Kage's Favorite Things! I am tempted to try the toner b/c I love all things Kiehl's. Granola Bars - delish! My MIL introduced them to me last fall. Thanks for the tips!

  • Do we assume that my preggy body is allowed to undergo the toner experience? (First time "bacne" sufferer...gah-ross.) Can someone check their label for me?

  • I have been using a tea tree oil face wash for 5 years now. It's no Keihls, but it seems to work. I don't have great skin, but I definitely notice a difference when I don't use it. Introducing the poor girls version of the Kiehls miracle: The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Face Wash

  • If you buy from Kiehls.com by 6/18, use coupon code "Family" for 20% off and free shipping on orders over $35. I just did it for the toner and oatmeal facial cleanser.

(I always check out Retailmenot.com before ordering online to see if there are any current coupon codes.)

  • hannah, it's funny you commented b/c I was thinking: man, I wish I had had this stuff during my pregnancies!

There is nothing on the label that starts with: "If you ar pregnant or breastfeeding..." but there are no tests done on pregnant women (obviously).

Further, most of the ingredients are pronouncable....tea tree oil, sage, lavender etc...

Of course if you are concerned you should consult your midwife, but if I were preggers I wouldn't even ask and would totally feel fine about this stuff.

  • Sweeeeeet. Maybe I can get into a bathing suit this summer if I can clear up the bacne. If it fits. Thanks for responding, Kage.
