Listerine Mouth Wash. My sister and her family had a bad case of it a couple of years ago and Listerine did the trick. Cover the head with it, put on a shower cap (or wrap head in saran wrap) and leave it for a couple of hours. Here is an article about it: http://www.peoplespharmacy.com/archives/home_remedies/listerine_for_lice.asp Good Luck!! And you're right - I think it is a childhood rite of passage.

Of course she does! (sarcasm)....
Just read labels b/c my sis had it at Princess' age and lost her curls....from the chemicals of the shampoo...this was 20 years ago, so hopefully they have come a long way.
I am so sorry......if you can do bedbugs, you can totally do this though!

mel - I'm going to look into the listerine thing. Sounds better than the crazy chemical stuff that seems to rarely work anyway (and like Kage says - can have some weird side effects too).
erin marin - thanks for the site. I have it bookmarked now.
And kage - I tell you what, this is bringing back all the horrible bed bug memories (and for the record everyone - the bed bugs were like four years ago. I don't want anyone thinking we are living in some sort of sick squalor and always infested with something). I'll have to retell the bed bug story on Tales someday.

You totally have to retell the bedbug saga - it's a doozy...
is it a rite of passage? B/c I an ok with not passing this rite....can my daughter's rite of passage be...survived a brain-damaged mommy for a bit?

Sympathy here. I'm Kage's curl-less sister. Don't know for sure if it really killed my curls but they were seriously gone after that! But, if they still use that stinky shampoo to get the lice out, give her popsicles to eat during the process. That's what I remember from when I had it in first grade.

When I had Jamaican lice, yes, I said that... I had to use the RID stuff and a fine tooth comb and get everyone out individually. My friend did it for me. Love her for that!

I remember being checked for it in school. Good luck getting rid of it...PLEASE don't lose those gorgeous curls on Princess!
And I just realized, I have been itching and scratching my head through reading this post and the comments. The subconscious!

I was in Jamaica and got it from the sand. Brought it home. So I call it Jamaican lice.
